A new and exciting introduction to basketball basics run by local basketball legend A.D. Smith. Kindergarteners will run through age-appropriate games and drills. We lower the basket and play with smaller balls. The camp will consist of four one-hour sessions. One session will be conducted per week. Every child will receive a t-shirt. Sessions begin in January. Registration deadline is Jan. 2, 2009. New this year, these sessions will be available for 1st and 2nd graders too!!!
1st & 2nd Grade Fall Basketball (see above for winter basketball clinic sessions too)
A great introduction to basketball and a fun activity for kids of all sizes and abilities, we modify the rules of the game to maximize success and growth. The basket height is lowered to 8-1/2' and we restrict defenses to man-to-man and no backcourt guarding. To encourage maximum participation we divide the games into eight periods of five minutes each. Any child not in the game one period must start and play in the next period.
Teams will be formed by grade, school and gender. If a school does not have enough kids to form their own team, players will be combined with a neighboring school. Every player gets a T-shirt uniform and plays six games.
3rd-4th Grade Basketball ()
This is an introduction to the fundamentals of basketball, modified for entry level participants. Schools with enough players to divide into multiple teams will be split evenly in the 3rd grade and by skill in the 4th grade. Each team will play eight regular season games. Each game consists of eight periods of five minutes. 8'6" baskets and 9' free throw lines.
5th Grade Basketball ()
This level introduces players to the skills and strategies of basketball. Schools with enough players to have multiple teams will divide players by skill level. Each team will play eight regular season games. Games will consist of eight periods of five minutes. 10' baskets and 12' free throw lines.
Middle School Basketball (6th-8th Grade)
()
Players are introduced to a higher level of basketball with increased defensive pressure. Schools generally have enough players to divide into three skill levels. Teams play ten regular season games. 6th graders play seven minute quarters while 7th and 8th graders play eight minute quarters. Zone defense, full court pressing and three point baskets are allowed in all middle school games. Read this explanation of skill evaluations/tryouts
QUAD A Basketball
()
QUAD A is available to 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. Teams are formed by tryouts held in high school areas. Tryouts begin mid-November with times and locations posted by coaches in the middle schools and at both KIDSPORTS offices. A Holiday Shootout will be held in December as a pre-season opener. Fourteen regular season games, the Shootout and KIDS KLASSIC Tournament games are all part of the single fee. Registration forms and fees are collected by the coach after tryouts are concluded.
