This.Is.Our.Why
In 1954 Eugene Boys Athletic Association (EBAA) was established which meant young girls; daughters, sisters, cousins, besties, did not have a place to play other than the sandlot or the annual “powder puff” games.
In 1972, the Title IX Education Amendment legislation provided a pathway for young girls and women to play, develop, and have fun at school and through organized sports.
EBAA evolved and changed its name to the Eugene Sports Program and then Kidsports welcoming “all kids to play,” thereby, fulfilling a mission that for 18 years was missing a large component of the population.
In June of 2022, Title IX celebrates its 50th anniversary.
And as it does, we too have the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the advancements women have made to provide an accessible, affordable, diverse, equitable and inclusive world that helps “all kids to play.”
